EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a research-based technique utilized to help individuals process trauma and overwhelming experiences.  It utilizes what is called "bilateral stimulation" to calm the prefrontal cortex (thinking parts of the brain) and allow an individual to reorganize and make new meaning of information trapped in the more primitive parts of the brain which hold emotional and somatic, or body-based, memories.  

Trained in 2018 by Jamie Marich of The Institute for Creative Mindfulness based in Warren, OH, I have found it to be a beautiful complement to  my history of training in somatic psychotherapy techniques as well as my Internal Family Systems approach to working with my clients.
